Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located? Can I visit you?

We work around the world, but are based in the community of East York, which is part of Tkaronto/Toronto, Canada, where we have a dedicated studio. We also utilize larger production studios and shared maker/artist spaces around the city on a project-to-project basis. Unfortunately, these locations are not open to the general public. However, we do annually hold “open house” workshops and demonstrations in the Greater Toronto Area in connection with Culture Days and World Puppetry Day, and participate in public festivals, conventions, and other events throughout the year. Visit Events for more information.

Can you create puppets for the project I'm currently producing?

Yes! Although our availability to take on new projects at the moment is somewhat limited, over the years we have provided design, puppeteering, fabrication and other production services to a wide range of clients, including advertising agencies, major and minor league sports teams, theatres, cultural institutions, and many others.

Contact Us for a samples of our past work, and to see if we can assist your production. Please note that we we do not accept commissions from private individuals at this time.

Do you use artificial intelligence in your work?

Working at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and traditional handcrafted arts, we support the responsible development and use of so-called generative artificial intelligence technologies as tools to help artists realize their creative vision, but never as a means to replace them.

We also realize that some of the methods currently being used to train A.I. models present complex legal and ethical concerns. In some cases that may include violating the copyrights of writers, filmmakers, visual artists and other creatives, including us. We take that very seriously.

In our work, generative A.I. is used selectively and sparingly. On some projects it helps us with developing mock-ups, conceptualization, 3D modelling, compositing, post production and other behind-the-scenes tasks. However, everything we make still begins with human imagination and is ultimately crafted by hand by real people with lots of love (and usually more than a few glue guns). When we do utilize A.I. as part of our process, we stick to models that are trained either on our own work, or on data that has been legally acquired in accordance with applicable copyright and privacy laws.

Like everyone else, we’re in the very earliest stages of exploring and understanding this new technology. We expect to keep re-examining and re-evaluating how, when, and why we use AI in the months and years ahead; always guided by the principle that human creativity, not algorithms, is the heart of our art.

Do you teach classes or workshops?

After a prolonged multi-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and professional obligations, we are thrilled to be once again presenting workshops at schools, libraries, colleges, festivals and other venues across Ontario, Canada and beyond for the 2025/26 season. Visit Workshops and Masterclasses for more information and watch for upcoming events near you.

In the past, we’ve also occasionally hosted masterclasses with visiting Canadian and international puppetry artists. These are professional workshops usually geared towards professional and aspiring performing artists, although teens 14+ with a strong demonstrated interest in puppetry are welcome to participate. We hope to be able to resume our Masterclass Series during the 2025/26 season.

Can you perform a puppet show or do a workshop at my child's birthday party, or bar/bat mitzvah party?

Unfortunately, we do not perform or present workshops at these types of private functions. To find artists in your area that do, we recommend contacting puppetry organizations like UNIMA Canada and The Puppeteers of America.
